Design Internship, Hubbub

Location: based in Central London

Contract: full time, 6 month contract with potential to extend

Salary: £20,000 per annum

Hubbub is a charity and social enterprise exploring new ways to engage mainstream audiences in sustainability issues. We do this by designing campaigns based on topics relevant to people’s day-to-day lifestyles, including; food, fashion, homes, neighbourhoods.

The role

We’re looking for a talented designer to join our team based in Somerset House, central London. The role will provide direct support to Hubbub’s Creative Director and will span across a broad range of Hubbub’s work; from artworking existing campaign materials to designing new campaign elements such as communications materials, installations, products and feeding into the design of social campaigns.

We’re looking for a designer who has a genuine interest in sustainability and is passionate about bringing environmental issues into the mainstream and creating behaviour change through creative, provocative and positive design. We’re looking for someone who is inquisitive and curious, has an active interest in current affairs and who has the ability to relate to a diverse range of audiences.

Successful applicants will show ambition, drive and an ability to be both creative and practical. They will have a strong understanding of design thinking and a fine attention to detail, can work effectively in a small team and be able to work confidently under their own initiative.

You will have excellent opportunities to demonstrate your creative ideas, expand your skills and realise your designs in collaboration with everyone from community groups to leading brands.

Specific duties for the Design Internship include:

  • Research and gathering insights: to inform the development of campaigns, designs and products that can create behaviour change. This could include setting up workshops and focus groups to meet and understand the audiences we want to engage with, online research and visiting the communities we work in.
  • Design thinking: being able to help project teams define the challenges they want to address within campaigns, and offer ideas that are based on research and insight, and follow them through from concept to testing and creation.
  • Art working and graphic design: supporting both the reworking of existing campaign materials as they are scaled, and designing of new campaign materials. This will require confidence in using InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, and an excellent ability to stick to brand guidelines.
  • Innovation: bringing new ideas to the organisation and confidence in challenging existing ideas and approaches.
  • Supporting the team to refine and test communications written for campaigns and design materials. This will include ensuring communications are aligned with Hubbub’s tone: being playful, positive and accessible to a wide range of audiences. This will excellent written and spoken English.
  • Supporting marketing activities, including concepts and designs for social media materials.

Community Fridge Network Manager, Hubbub

Location: based in Central London. Travel around the UK is to be expected, with infrequent overnight stays. Working from home part-time is negotiable.

Contract: full time, 12 month contract

Salary: £28,000 per annum

Hubbub is seeking a Community Fridge Network Manager to oversee the management of the Community Fridge Network (CFN), provide support to the growing network of Community Fridges in the UK and support the concept to strategically evolve through the creation of an online forum.

The CFN is a core part of Hubbub’s food hub activities and supports the hub’s ambition to reduce food waste, increase food skills and access to healthy, affordable and sustainable diets.

The CFN has received funding from the Big Lottery, which will come to an end in May 2020. By this date, we wish to take the Network to a place where it can exist independently of Hubbub whilst continuing to support the concept to flourish. We’re looking for the right person to manage the transition of the Network.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual passionate about environmental issues and issues relating to our food system such as food waste, health inequality and food security.

The role

As the Community Fridge Network Manager you will oversee the day-to-day management of the CFN, including supporting individual groups to set up and run in-line with the Network’s principles, oversee the Community Fridge Facebook Forum and manage CFN grants to meet the expectations of funders, food donors and other key stakeholders.

You will be responsible for identifying ways to make the support process more efficient while ensuring that CFN guidance and procedures are regularly updated to keep safety risks to a minimum. You will work with the Hubbub Communications Team to promote the CFN and celebrate its impact.

You will have responsibility for shaping the strategic direction of the Network ensuring that the Network develops in its goals to reduce food waste and increase community cohesion whilst going on to have a legacy independently of Hubbub. You will support the Food team to secure funding for and create an online platform to host the CFN and lead on the long term governance and model for the CFN.

We’re looking for someone who is highly organised and independent with a proactive attitude, who wants to use these qualities for environmental and social benefit.

We're looking for the following skills/experience

  • University degree or equivalent.
  • Significant project management experience, including budget management, stakeholder engagement and project planning.
  • Significant experience of community engagement or liaison.
  • Passionate about, and has knowledge of environmental issues and issues relating to our food system such as food waste, health inequality and food security.
  • Experience of working in collaboration with partner organisations to achieve shared objectives.
  • The ability to support the work of a small team as well as to work independently.
  • Fluent in English with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience of website development and management.
  • Good computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Good social media skills.

Food Project Lead, Hubbub

Location: based in Central London

The role

Hubbub is seeking a Project Lead to join our dynamic food team in Somerset House, Central London. This is a brilliant opportunity to increase the impact of our food work and creatively input into the development and delivery of our campaigns to increase access to sustainable, healthy diets.

Hubbub is an environmental charity which designs positive, playful campaigns that inspire people to make healthier and greener choices. The food hub uses the charity’s creative approach to support a transition towards more sustainable diets in order to address significant health and environmental challenges.

We focus on supporting a transition from diets heavy in animal protein towards varied, healthy and affordable low-input diets, reducing food waste in homes and communities. Examples include seasonal food waste campaigns like Pumpkin Rescue, collaborative, cross-sector initiatives like Food Savvy, and the Community Fridge Network, and targeted interventions such as Meat Your Match which successfully challenged young gym going men to halve their meat consumption.

The Food Project Lead will work across projects, contribute at every stage of the process from proposal writing, pitching, design and development to delivery and monitoring, reflecting on project performance and suggesting developments for the future.

We’re looking for a great team player and project manager with a strong knowledge of environmental and food issues and an ability to keep projects and communications on track whilst exploring new ideas.

The Role

We’re looking for a talented intern to join our team based in Somerset House, central London. We’re looking for an intern who has a genuine interest in sustainability and is passionate about bringing environmental issues into the mainstream and creating behaviour change. This is a brilliant opportunity to join a purpose-led business with huge growth potential.

The role will provide support to the Hubbub Enterprise team in the delivery of a broad range of Hubbub’s work including employee engagement initiatives with major businesses, recycling projects and our corporate volunteering activity, Plastic Fishing.

Specific duties for project support internship include:

  • Administrative support including financial administration. Marketing activities including social media.
  • Project delivery support to team members
  • Sales administration of the Ballot Bin and Plastic Fishing, including customer service, sales and stock/diary management.
  • Support of a communications strategy for Hubbub Enterprise including newsletters, website updates, case studies.
  • Acting as the team’s first point of contact for new enquiries.

We're looking for the following skills/experience

  • Excellent organisational and problem solving skills including attention to detail and the ability to prioritise under pressure.Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience of providing administrative support and financial administration.
  • Marketing and communications experience.
  • Knowledge of social enterprise sector (preferable but not essential).
  • Design skills (preferable but not essential).
