Make our Move

Want to do something good for the environment? Not sure where to start? Climate change is a huge issue, so it's easy to get overwhelmed, or confused about what we can actually do to help.

You're not alone. In fact 2 in 3 of us are concerned with the impact of climate change, yet only 1 in 5 know what action we can take to reduce our impact. Over a third of us would like clearer guidance on what would make a difference and where to start. So we've done the hard work for you.

We’ve pulled together 12 clear actions you can take that'll have a positive impact. Luckily, decisions that are good for the environment are usually good for us too. They can save us money, keep us healthy, and be a great way to connect with others. Whether you just want to try some simple sustainable swaps, or are looking to extend your actions to your workplace and community, we've got ideas to help.

Let's make our move, together.

Did you know you can use your money to help the environment - without having to spend it?

As savers, investors and consumers, our money is super powerful. All our money held by entities such as bank accounts, stocks and shares and pension pots are actually being invested in different industries, helping raise their value till we need to use them.

Unfortunately, these investments often include fossil fuel companies, who have played a huge role in contributing to carbon emissions that cause climate change. In fact, out of the common high street banks that are still funding fossil fuel companies, around £2 of every £100 of our savings is likely going towards them.

Moving our pension and money to green investments

Moving our money to more ethical investments is a one-off action that has a huge long term impact. Imagine how many thousands you save and over how many years... To divert this away from industries that are harming the environment is a huge achievement, not to mention the positive impact it could have instead by being invested elsewhere (creating green jobs, supporting small businesses, etc). The best part? It can be achieved in minutes!

It's a simple search online to check if your bank is currently funding fossil fuel companies, and which banks are making more ethical choices if you wanted to switch.

If you're signed up to the government pension scheme Nest it's an easy switch to their ethical fund which you can do yourself online here. Otherwise, speak to your employer or pension providers about the options they offer.
