Following the success of #LeedsByExample, we're delighted to be expanding the recycling-on-the-go initiative – now named #InTheLoop - to Swansea in the autumn, with the ambition to roll it out to Edinburgh and a further 10 cities across the UK over the coming year.

We’ll build on the lessons learned in Leeds to introduce to Swansea, a range of new recycling bins, communications and activities, to drive up recycling rates of plastic bottles, glass bottles, cans and coffee cups. We'll also test new infrastructures, behaviour change techniques and engaging communications, in order to leave a lasting legacy.

We'll be working collaboratively with partners, will independently evaluate and measure our impact, and will share a robust set of recommendations to inform a new approach to recycling on the go.

The results will be shared openly to help other UK towns and cities roll-out the most successful elements.

Join the Swansea collaboration

Swansea #InTheLoop will launch in mid-September and will run for five months, bringing together a ground-breaking coalition of local and national organisations. The current partnership includes Swansea City Council, Swansea Environment Centre, Keep Wales Tidy and the Swansea University.

We’re calling on any business or organisation in Swansea city centre to join the #InTheLoop collaboration - there’s no charge! You'll receive:

  1. Free communication materials to help increase recycling rates by using a consistent, simple recycling message across the city – including a digital toolkit.
  2. An employee engagement guide to inform your employees of the issue, as well as inspiring them to get involved and take action.
  3. Guidance on how to recycle coffee cups.
  4. Bespoke events and activations, available on request.
