Fries are one of the most wasted foods from takeaway orders. But there are loads of great easy ways to use up leftover fries like patatas bravas, chip omelette or these delicious spicy fries.

Ingredients (serves 2)

2 handfuls of old chips
2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
Half a red onion, diced
1 green chilli, de-seeded and diced
1 red chilli, de-seeded and diced
2 cloves of garlic, sliced
1 spring onion, chopped
1 tablespoon golden syrup
1 teaspoon Chinese five spice
Plenty of salt and pepper
Any spare pickled onions you have left 


  1. In a large pan on a medium heat add the oil and the onions, cook for 2 minutes.
  2. Then add the old chips and mix well.
  3. After 3-5 minutes add in the garlic, chilli and spring onions and toss to combine.
  4. Season well and add the golden syrup and Chinese five spice and leave to cook for a further 3-5 minutes into all golden and thick.
  5. Serve up with a sprinkling of spring onions greens and dive in.
