The perfect appetiser or snack for your Pride Picnic or barbecue, and can be made cold with fruit or warm with vegetables. Mix and match with whatever colour produce you have, it doesn’t have to be perfect!

Ingredients (adjust ingredients to serve as many as you like)

Fruit version

  • Red grapes
  • Green grapes or kiwi
  • Pineapple or Mango
  • Oranges
  • Strawberries or raspberries

Veg version (to cook)

  • Red onion
  • Beetroot
  • Courgette
  • Green pepper
  • Yellow pepper
  • Orange pepper
  • Red pepper
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Olive oil to brush
  • Sea salt, cracked black pepper and mixed Italian herbs to taste


  1. Prepare the veg by washing and cutting into bite size chunks and slices.
  2. Layer them on the skewers in rainbow order. 1 pepper cuts well into about 16 - 20 bitesize pieces, so will make 8-10 skewers if you double up each colour.
  3. Brush with olive oil, then sprinkle salt pepper and any mixed/dried Italian herbs to season.
  4. Preheat the grill to 180 degrees and grill the skewers for 10-15 minutes, turning regularly, or until they just start to go brown round the edges.
  5. Prepare the fruit by washing and cutting in half or dicing if needed, then layer on a skewer in rainbow order. Voila!

Food Savvy tip

Do the veg first and then you can prepare the fruit in the 15 minutes while the veg is grilling.
