This is a great way for using up left-over mashed potato.

Ingredients (serves 2, 3 each)

  • 210 grams mashed potato (or a couple of mashed up roast potatoes)
  • Salt and pepper
  • 12 grams breadcrumbs for the coating (or a small handful)
  • 1 small egg
  • Oil or butter for cooking.


  1. Mix the mashed potato, egg, salt and pepper together Put the breadcrumbs into a shallow bowl.
  2. Shape the potato into a sausage shape.
  3. Cut into roughly size equal size pieces.
  4. Roll in the breadcrumbs.
  5. Fry in the oil and butter until golden all over.

Food savvy tip

If you’ve treated yourself a fish and chip supper for a special occasion and there are some chips left over, don’t trash them. They cost too much in the first place! Wrap them up and pop them in the fridge. They’ll be just as good warmed up the following day.
