Plastic Pioneers challenging single-use plastic in schools Welcome to Plastic Pioneers, in collaboration with TK Maxx and Homesense. This exciting campaign is empowering schools to break away from single-use plastics. The Government has an ambition to stop schools using single-use plastic by 2022, but the average Brit currently throws away over 34kg of plastic packaging every year. That’s the weight of nearly 5,000 pencils, every year! Twelve trail blazing schools have joined Plastic Pioneers to encourage over 7,000 students to re-think school life with less single-use plastic. Each school is coming up with its own pupil-led action plan, including steps to encourage switching to reusable water bottles, and unique ideas like creating a reusable party kit for school events. Eco-artists, plastic workshops and inspirational speakers are all part of the Plastic Pioneer journey to re-imagine school life without single-use plastic.
