Manchester community project Unlocking the potential of Manchester’s residents to tackle the climate emergency More than half of us (55%) would like to see more happening in our local communities to tackle climate change but most of us are confused about the role we play, unclear about which actions will have the most impact, and concerned that change will be difficult. At Hubbub we believe that living in a way that is better for the environment, our families and our communities can be accessible to everyone. That’s why we’re teaming up with Manchester Climate Change Agency and Manchester City Council to launch a pioneering new programme that aims to unlock the potential of Manchester residents and communities to respond to the climate emergency. Can a closer relationship with nature encourage climate action? As part of the programme, we are launching an urban greening campaign that will explore how nature can connect the big issue of climate change to an individual, household and community level, and mobilise people to take action in their everyday lives. The campaign will use nature-based solutions and showcase local green spaces to inspire climate action and make Manchester communities more resilient. To find out more, read our latest blog here. A toolkit of tried and tested projects From Spring 2020, we’ll be trialling a series of positive, practical projects in central and north Manchester – from community fridges to urban greening projects - that will make it easier and more enjoyable to eat healthier, buy better, travel cleaner, live more affordably and power our homes more efficiently. We’ll also be sharing simple tips and hacks with residents across the City, and shouting about all the great things happening in Manchester already to make it easier to get involved! The aim? To build more resilient communities and create a greener, cleaner Manchester. We’ll measure it all to know what works and what doesn’t with the aim of creating a tried and tested toolkit of projects that can be replicated in communities across the UK. Want to find out more?
