An opportunity to bring your art to life

At Hubbub we love being creative, and we love collaborating with others. That's why we're offering artists the opportunity to design the next pop-up installation for our Love Your Forest campaign, and we'll be choosing one piece to bring to life and display in the Forest of Dean. Read on for background on the campaign and our design brief to enter your idea.

About the #LoveYourForest campaign

Each year 250 tonnes of rubbish is removed from the Forest of Dean, costing local taxpayers £457,000 per year to clean up. Over the past four years Hubbub's Love Your Forest campaign has been exploring playful ways to tackle littering in the area, engaging with a cross-section of the community, building on the pride people have in the forest, and emphasising the power of local collaboration.

We trialled creative ways to encourage people to stop littering, such as a pop-up litter shop displaying 33-year-old litter from the forest (reminding people that it can stick around for a very long time), a 'trashconverter' that invited people to swap trash for treats, and a litter-free picnic inspiration guide with opportunities to win picnic prizes over social media.

We’re now going into the 5th year of the campaign and are taking things to the next level by introducing on-street recycling facilities across the four towns and creating a consistent recycling message at Forestry England sites. We’re also introducing Recycle Reward Machines at 2 local retailers and adapting Love Your Forest’s existing interventions to include a recycling message.

The Installation Brief

What's the budget?

£4500 which includes the design, build, and installation in a Forest of Dean location.

What are we looking for?
We want everyone that lives in and visits the Forest of Dean to know about the new recycling facilities and to understand the value and countless possibilities of keeping plastic bottles and drinks cans circulating. This is where you come in!

We’d love to hear your ideas for a positive, playful and eye-catching installation that can tour the Forest of Dean this year, it would need to be built and ready to display by 6th May 2020.

The installation should invoke a sense of pride and love for the forest, it should fit the community it sits in, perhaps with a natural feel to it, and connect those themes with the action of recycling. It’s important that it’ll be durable outside in different weather conditions, as well as meeting health and safety requirements, and fairly easily portable, but apart from that we’re interested in seeing some really creative and out-of-the-box ideas, so go wild!

How do I enter my idea?

1. Read the installation brief above and the terms and conditions below.

2. Create a visual design/mock-up of your idea.

3. Write a short paragraph explaining your concept and planned materials.

4. Send your design and supporting paragraph to [email protected] with the subject ‘LOVE YOUR FOREST INSTALLATION’ by Sunday 15th March at 11pm.
