Abi Arden Engagement Co-ordinator I started becoming interested in Hubbub two years ago after doing work experience with the team. Here I was struck by the unique way Hubbub works alongside the community, taking time to understand local dynamics whilst bringing a confident energy to issues that inspire others to experiment with new approaches. This led me to volunteer with the Love Where You Live campaign in Oldham throughout my final year at the University in Manchester and write my dissertation on the potential for communal sharing in these transformed spaces. As sustainability officer for the University of Manchester Students Union I established the ‘Earth Week’ initiative which organised discussion groups on topics from food waste to fracking. In this role I also supported the set up of The Closet - a student run fashion co-operative that encourages up-cycling and clothes swapping whilst raising money for local mental health groups. I believe that communication has a powerful role to play as we reimagine how to live sustainability. This first became clear to me when I joined ClimActs - a climate activism group whilst living in Melbourne, Australia. Here I experience first hand how imaginative stunts and thought provoking storytelling could spark conversations with a diverse range of people and change minds. I have long been inspired by the power a few determined individuals can have to create real change. This is continually showcased at Hubbub and I feel fortunate to be working alongside such a dynamic team. My work includes engaging with Hubbub’s friends network by writing blogs, newsletters and communicating our creative campaigns across the world. Outside of work some of my favourite things include finding new music, running by the river and drinking tea.
