Every year in the UK we throw away 300,000 tonnes of clothing and on top of this there is a massive 183 million items of outgrown baby clothing tucked away in UK homes.

In an effort to try and divert these clothes from the bin we have launched the Street Store, a new trial to reduce textile waste funded by the North London Waste Authority. Street Store is a community clothes swap which encourages parents to update their children’s wardrobe for free by bringing along pre-loved high-quality clothing to swap.

There will be three trials over the summer after which you can download a free 'how-to' guide to run your very own Street Store.

Street Store Events

Beginning on 30th July and continuing throughout the summer.

  • Bring your clothes to Barnard Adventure Playground in Islington and browse the rails! The clothes will be available to browse from 9 - 11:30pm and 4 - 5:30pm every day.
  • Any clothes swapped should be high quality (other children should be able to proudly wear what you bring), clean and suitable for ages 6-11.
  • Any clothes too worn to wear or stained should be taken to a nearby textile-recycling bank.

Keep your eyes peeled for more events and to find out more about how swapping works check out the video below.
